Kymo Kea

In Kea, 100m from Otzias beach, two stone houses were designed. Following the steep topography of the landscape, the two buildings are placed on two different levels, in an amphitheatrical position, overlooking the bay of Otzias and the sea.

Each house consists of a central volume that includes the living room and the kitchen. The bedrooms and all other spaces are organized around and below it while the patios and the swimming pool are developed asymmetrically next to it, in the most favourable position of the plot.

The buildings, following the local technique "Koutoudo," are slightly pushed back from the excavation, to achieve better waterproofing for the subterranean spaces, and at the same time unobstructed circulation around the house, outdoors.

The materials used for the construction, reinforced concrete, local stone and plaster, led the way for the materiality of the final surfaces. Pelion stone was chosen for the interior and exterior floors, painted plaster for the walls and exposed concrete for the roof.
